posted 30th September 2025
On Sunday 28th September, six club members gathered in dry but overcast conditions for an 8 mile hike from Gomshall to Dorking. During the morning, we took a photo opportunity at the Wilberforce Monument on Abinger Roughs. Samuel Wilberforce, known as "Soapy Sam", was the Bishop of Winchester who died at this location in 1873 after falling from his horse. After stopping for lunch at the village of Westcott, we continued our trek to Dorking, the chosen route involving one quite challenging climb. We finally arrived at Dorking Deepdene Station in perfect time to catch the train home
