Plumpton to Lewes, Sunday 1st September

posted 3rd September 2025

On Sunday 1st September, nine club members met at East Croydon Station. Boarding the train for the 40-minute journey to Plumpton, we were joined by Dave, who had caught the train at Clapham Junction. From Plumpton Station, we set off in bright, sunny but not excessively hot conditions, just about perfect for walking. After heading south for a short distance, we began the long steady climb onto the South Downs. When we reached Black Cap, we turned south along the ridge to Mount Harry, the highest point on the Downs. From there, we dropped steadily down to the village of Offham, where we ate our lunch in the churchyard. After lunch we continued our descent, finally reaching the River Ouse at Lewes. We then headed through the town to the station for our journey back to Croydon. This had been a most enjoyable walk!
