Visit to the Bank of England Museum

posted 13th March 2025

On Wednesday 12th March, twelve members travelled to the City of London to visit the Bank of England Museum. After a brief coffee and comfort stop at the nearby Starbucks, we made our way through the airport-style security (well, they do keep a gold bar in there!) the enter the museum. We then spent an hour viewing the exhibits that lay out the history of the bank from well before its establishment in 1694 right through to the present day, with some of us attending a very interesting talk on the future of money. Afterwards, we crossed Threadneedle Street to view the statues of George Peabody (of Peabody Buildings fame) and Paul Julius Reuter, the founder of Reuters' news agency, before strolling through The Royal Exchange to see how the other half live, before heading back to Croydon. All in all, a very successful trip, and great to see so many members on what was quite a chilly day!
