Caterham to Merstham, Thursday 6th August
posted 7th August 2026
Thursday 6th August was a splendid day for walking. With a gentle breeze and the temperature hovering around 20ºC, it was the best day we’ve had for quite a while! So it was a little disappointing that only four club member turned out for this walk. Starting from Caterham Station, we headed south up Godstone Road before branching off up Tupwood Lane, past the North Downs Hospital. On reaching the top, we swung to the right and a few minutes later we took the path up through the woods to the east of Pilgrims’ Lodge. Finally emerging on the North Downs Way (NDW), we turned west, and almost immediately reached The Viewpoint. After almost an hour of steady climbing, we took a well earned drinks break. We then continued west along the NDW for around two miles. The picture taken by Dave, shows us on the NDW about to descend towards Merstham. Despite the small turnout, his was a splendid and most enjoyable walk!
