Hassocks, Sunday 26th July
posted 3rd August 2026
Eight club members caught the train from East Croydon to Hassocks. From there we headed south towards the South Downs, ascending the hill and passing the Jack & Jill Windmills, with Jack in the process of being renovated. We then continued up the hill to the ridge where we stopped for a drinks break. After walking on along the ridge for a while, we headed downhill before Ditchling Beacon and on into Ditchling where we had lunch. Afterwards, we headed north up a long shallow slope to another windmill where we turned westwards towards Hassocks, and the station. On a warm day with a pleasant breeze, this was a most enjoyable ramble even though it came in at a little over the advertised eight miles. Hayriye Refet, our new lady member, thanked me for a lovely walk and introduction to the group.
