Shalford Circular, Sunday 27th September

Seven club members travelled via Redhill to Shalford Station. In almost ideal walking conditions, we headed east alongside the railway line that had brought us to Shalford. On reaching Chilworth, we turned south to make our way over Blackheath, which involved a long and quite testing climb. Descending on the other side, we reached Blackheath village where we stopped for a much needed drinks break. From there, we headed over fields and through woods to the village of Wonersh, where we stopped for lunch at The Grantley Arms, which dates back to 1651. Afterwards, we continued along the road to Bramley, stopping at the long disused railway station for a group photograph, taken by leader Graham. Following the path along the route of the old railway line brought us back to Shalford for the journey home, having walked a total distance of just under seven miles. This was a most enjoyable walk, and the most testing one that I have undertaken for some time!
