Nine club members gathered at Victoria Station to take the short bus journey to the Imperial War Museum. As this was not a guided tour, on our arrival we dispersed in order to visit the areas of the museum in which each of us was especially interested. I focused on the World War Two Gallery, an era that my parents and sisters lived through and that I was fortunate to avoid. For me, the highlight was the beautifully restored Rolls Royce Merlin engine which powered several British war planes, including the Spitfire and the Lancaster. I found its intricacy and precision simply breathtaking.
